Back again

Before the last goodbye today
I wanted to say to you,
I want to come back again
Not once in a blue moon-maybe never… again
Perhaps on a Monday or a holly day
When the only music playing
Is the silence of unsaid words and ragged emotion

I’ll come on a hot day
Without sweet foods or set moods
No white shirt, no cramping fit
With empty pockets and blurry cameras,
A lacking soul in dusty shoes.

I want to come back again
I hope there will be no parades
Or special food for the ‘visitor’
Or investigative whispers and meddling questions
No lines to shared nibbles
Or banana smiles for wishful reconnections.

I long to come back again.

I want to come back again
When my stay won’t have to be a reminder
Of that which is lacking from you or of you
Or what could have been if you were me,
Or a picture that was taken and never seen
Or names forgotten and hearts partly hidden.

I yearn to come back again

I want to come back again
As a stranger needing a friend
As a person troubled, sharing in life complications
Not different from you
Or ‘blessed-with-privilege’ of me.

I want to come back again
And share in existence with you
In simplicity and mindfulness of being.
Oh what a friendship we could have then.

I want to come back again.

Author’s note

Hello, I hope you have been well since the last note . If you just joined Shared Cosmos feel free to begin wherever your spirit leads. Back Again is a reflectional poem on the nature of the help we give to those around us that we consider less privileged . On the 20th I participated in an amazing and joyous day of visiting two rescue centers for children ;one for the children in the streets and another for young girls at the risk of or victims of female genital mutilation and early marriages. The experience was as warmly profound as it was joyous. Gratitude.

Ideologically, I couldn’t help but dwell on the nature of one off charity. I wonder if the visited ponder the visitors and their shared kindness. I wonder whether the visitors contemplate these presentational normalities such as dressing or photography. I wonder whether both of the two wish for something more out of the goodness of one-off communion. Is it even mutual?

All in all, Back Again is a hopeful prompt that expresses the desire of a visitor to want to share more than a day or seasonal gratuity. A yearning to share without something to give perhaps.

I hope you have a good read. Feel free to share thoughts and or sentiments. Otherwise have a lovely day on this Friday. I will you goodness and love until we come back again in this shared cosmos.

Thank You
